Moving from the Netherlands to Belgium involves more than a longer drive. There are forms to fill in on both sides of the border, and the planning of a long-distance move works differently from a local one. This guide covers what you arrange yourself and what we take care of as your removal company.
Before you leave the Netherlands
- Deregister with your Dutch municipality (gemeente) when you emigrate. Its website explains from which date you can report your departure.
- Arrange health insurance for your new situation, and check with your employer or pension fund what changes.
- Cancel or transfer energy, internet and your Dutch home insurance.
After you arrive in Belgium
New residents in Belgium register with the municipality (commune/gemeente) of their new address; a local officer usually checks that you actually live there. Because Belgium and the Netherlands are both in the EU, your household goods cross the border without customs formalities.
Practical points for the moving day
Parking rules differ per Belgian municipality. Ask at your new address whether a parking space for the moving truck has to be reserved, and do the same at your Dutch address. We plan the route and the arrival time so that loading and unloading can happen on the same day where the distance allows it.
What an international move costs
International moves start from € 2.414 including VAT. The final price depends on the volume, the distance and the access at both addresses; after an inventory you receive a fixed price. Want extra help? Our packing service starts from € 599, and storage from € 103 per month.
Protecting your belongings
Transport is covered by an all-risk transport insurance. Pack fragile items well, or leave it to us: under our terms we are not liable for damage to fragile goods that we did not pack ourselves. Report any damage within 24 hours of delivery.
What is fixed in your quote
- A quote is valid for 14 days. Once you accept it in writing, the agreed fixed price is binding; only extra work you ask for on the day itself can be charged separately.
- For moves above € 1.500 we may ask for a deposit of up to 30%. The invoice is due within 14 days.
- Cancelling up to 7 days before the moving day is free of charge.
- Transport is covered by an all-risk transport insurance. Report any damage within 24 hours of delivery.
